SHOULD I START MY OWN BUSINESS Off to the races about making money and not punching a clock to get it. Thinking about becoming a business owner but not quite sure what I might be getting myself into. Every successful business had to start from somewhere. Whether it be in their mom’s garage or handed down from generation to generation, it started with humble beginnings, hard work and perseverance. Startup businesses pop up every day around the globe be it legal or suspicious, but one prime factor is there had to be some ground work. Starting your own business requires finding a niche that is not too saturated and a product that is high in demand. Selling something that provides either a service or will benefit consumers should be part of planning a business to start. Actively searching for the perfect business to start up and a business that will be profitable can happen if you do the homework. But then there is that one issue….MONEY! Money is the one thing that brings me to back to the reason I need to start my own business but without money how can I start a business? Doing my homework and researching jobs that can be profitable with little startup cost ranged from the low end of $100 all the way up to a few thousands. Flipping websites, dog walking, babysitting, lawn work, and a few others came up in my search. It also mentioned selling your talent or offering a service that you possess experience and skill in. Offering my service as a consultant is a startup that seems affordable because of the low cost involved. The majority of the monies needed to promote my talent would be in advertising. That wouldn’t cost much thanks to Social Media (Facebook, Twitter) which is basically a free platform to showcase your business. Word of mouth is the best marketing tool around still today and should never be under estimated. Even with your skill to boot there is still so much to consider like your target audience and demographics. Who to cater to and who needs my service. If you have a variety of talent and skill set, you will have to find a way to bundle them or make it a separate enterprise. Either way it can be used to your advantage to grow your business. Trial and error will be the best indicator to starting a business. No business was successful overnight but it can grow overnight. Stay steadfast and keep trying if you don’t first succeed. With low startup cost business imagine all the possibilities that can happen just for doing something you enjoy and happen to be really good at.
Holidays come faster than paydays especially when there is no payday to boot. As we know the holidays brings on the urgency for extra money but without an extra job that can be a major problem. When Halloween ends everyone knows what is about to happen within the months ahead; MAJOR SPENDING! Beginning in November with giving thanks to the pilgrimage and moving into December by showering those we love and cherish with material gifts. The days of handmade gift giving is still around but it is not practiced as it was years ago. Finding a way to make some extra money for the holidays are out there if you know where to look.
Seasonal work is definitely one of those things that you love it or hate it. Depending on which side of the labor force you are on it’s a great idea or the worst idea ever. For those who do not have a regular 9 to 5 and are always looking for ways to supplement your income, seasonal work is very much appreciated. These jobs are easy to qualify for and only last usually from the last week in November through the third week of December, usually Christmas Eve. It is a quick way to make some cash for the holidays and most of the companies who offer this seasonal work pay rather fast, sometimes in cash. Large toy and electronics companies or retail corporations hire extra workers for their businesses to handle the demand. The hiring process is usually onsite and the prerequisite for the job is very minimal. Amazon, Walmart, Target, are just a few companies that do seasonal hiring. There is also the Post office for all of the packaging including UPS and FedEx. One seasonal job that has been very lucrative and it generates a great deal of money is Christmas Lights Hanging.
I remember watching a video on three college dropouts who had no job and a neighbor asked them if they knew how to hang Christmas lights because he didn’t. The dropout did such a great job the other people in the neighborhood wanted them to do theirs too. The rest is history. Now these guys have a business and only work during the Christmas holiday.
Seasonal work is not just limited to labor jobs. There are jobs that need people with a knack for selling. Kiosk workers are the best for selling seasonal goods and having that person with the gift of gab can make good money. Most of those places are commission based with hourly pay so if you have the gift, let it work for your pocketbook. Stores with promotional selling are Sam’s, Home Depot, Lowes, and other major warehouses. One last type of seasonal work are for those individuals who enjoy working for yourself. This type of seasonal gain is driven by the people who provide a service for the people who are out spending their paychecks and need something or someone to pick up the slack. These are your babysitters, house sitters, and or pet sitters. Individuals who have that one item not found in stores but something you need maybe once or twice a year. Gift baskets, personalized homemade items, and people who need a gift at the last moment when all the stores are closed and online delivery by Christmas is shut off. Seasonal jobs for them are a blessing in disguise. Bulk of their income is made during this time of year. Like I mentioned earlier, depending on what side of the labor force you promote, seasonal work is either loved or hated.
Almost a year later and we still doing the same thing but expecting different results. I believe they call that insanity. It has been a long journey and been a while since I have posted about it. So much has happened in the last few months while on this journey of unemployed and joblessness. Life throws so many curve balls, speed bumps, road blocks, and detours but we always seem to have that GPS up and running to find an alternate route. Now that I am back on that path maybe this little bit of information can help someone who is beginning their journey.
Still no real job so I am constantly on the grind looking for ways to make some money. I have relocated to a new state and the requirements to substitute teach aren’t as strenuous. Of course subbing is only part time and as needed so the pay is minimal but it does pay a few bills. Since this doesn’t require me to be locked in on a daily basis unless I want to be, I am able to look for other ways to supplement my income. With the option of freedom to roam on my side landed me on a research panel. Before going into the specifics of being part of a research panel there are a few things that should be taken into consideration. There a many sites online who claim that they are legit companies searching for consumer’s opinions but are not. Like I posted in a prior post about SCAMS, before signing up do a little research on what companies are reputable and do not require payment to be on a panel. True research groups do not ask for any monies to be on their list. There are pre-screening questions that place you in certain demographics and other areas that companies need information about their products. Some panels even involve your household (spouse, children) to participate. I am not a fan of online surveys because of the risk in phish·ing ˈfiSHiNG/ noun
I prefer to participate in panels that are done locally in the city you reside. Most cities have some form of research group that work with major companies. Google your city to see what type of panels are available for your input and interests. Participating on a research panel can be very rewarding, especially financially. There are online panels, off line panels, video panels, in home panels, and even by phone. The topics are unlimited on what the consumer can give their opinion about. I have given my opinion on beers, coffee, creamers, and fast food restaurants to mention. My recent experience involved signing up and filling out a questionnaire via email, and them calling me for a few more specifics the company was looking for. After qualifying I was given a place and time to show up. The topic I was chosen to discuss was about my household shopping habits and where I shopped. I am African American, female, over 50, unmarried, and income under 50k allowed me to be on the panel. I showed up to give my input as a consumer but when the time came for me to participate I was told that my services were not needed because I was a backup panelist in case one of the ten women did not show. Thank you for your time and here is $150.00. Not the outcome I was expecting but I am still grateful for the money for an hour of my time. I will continue to do pre-screens for topics that interest me and hopefully next time I am picked I will be able to give my input about a certain product or store that I frequent on a weekly basis. Summer cometh and how have you started preparing for it. Some of the prep is done without our consent such as time change and spring rain. Nothing we can do to postpone or change those events. What about the other seasonal going-on that will happen but you can have a little say so how it happens? I am talking about shedding that winter weight gain. I noticed that department stores have already begin placing swim suits on the racks. My preparation for losing the extra pounds started last week. I refused to tell my brain that my body and I are going on a DIET. Me and that four letter word are enemies. Instead of speaking it out loud, I changed DIET to rearranging my eating habits. I started eliminating all carbohydrates, cut down on the sugars, replace my chips for fruits and vegetables, plus increase my water intake. Put some juicing in the mix of all of that and in my experience you get what I call the “POOP FAST DIET PLAN” because that is all I have been mastering lately. I refused to step on a scale yet, I won’t do that for another couple of weeks. I tried walking for a couple days, but the premature rain we had deterred me from going out. This week I did go swimming and my body felt like jelly afterwards. If the weather continues to stay constant then I will get back to walking and maybe joining a gym. Diets are so cliché since there are so many to choose from. Everything we do when it comes to becoming a better stronger healthier individual begins with a mental attitude anyway. Mind over matter type mentality. I always have a talk with my mind and body and tell them both that we are on the same team and we will be successful as one entity. Working together as a team reaps better rewards than fighting against each other. If they both work together I will reward them both. Mind gets fed and body does too. Everyone is happy. Spiritual, emotional, and physical nutrition. The first week was very hard but the second week of me repeatedly saying….I AM STRONGER THAN THE CRAVING lessened the desires for chips, pasta, and sodas. Going into next week will have some challenges because I am going to want some green beer for St.Pattys Day and I will have a beer. Remember it is not a diet, it is just me rearranging my eating habits, tweaking it a little to make me healthier and look good in a bathing suit. This is how I prepare for Summer!
How do you snack? Lately the way I have been snacking has a great deal to do with my weight. This month brought on a change in my eating habits, partly because of my weight gain. Health reasons too. Eating healthy begins with the basics, fruits, vegetables, oats and grains followed with lots of water. Sometimes following that list is very hard and even harder when you finish eating and need a snack.
When you hear the word snack, I automatically think of chips, candy, sodas, and all the cupcakes the bakery can fit into a cardboard box. But we know that all those goodies are filled with fatty oils and all things not good for you. I am a sweet fanatic and cannot resist chocolate. Again, I had to find a better way to fill that void. Sweets are always going to be my weakness so I thought about experimenting with all the different ways to mix fruit with other healthy ingredients. My favorite fruits are watermelons, oranges, pears, grapes, peaches, plumbs, and pineapples. Depending on the season I take these fruits, chop them into bite size bits, and place them in a bowl. I add some nuts, my preference are pecans. I mix those up and add some granola and Cool whip. Since the Cool whip is high in sugar, it can be substituted with yogurt. It’s not chocolate but it does calm my sweet tooth. That is how I snack.
Another wonderful Friday and this sunny Cali weather has me pondering if I am going to throw on a swimsuit this summer. It is already reaching 80 degree temps and I need to start working on my bikini body. I had begun juicing last year and did it for about three months. My energy levels were peeked and I could really tell the difference when I changed my diet to coincide with the juicing. Although I didn’t have an exercise regiment I still felt better when I started juicing. I decided I needed to get back on track because being unemployed you begin picking up very bad habits. My biggest downfall is living with mother who is over 70 and her day begins with a cup of coffee and some television, followed by more television and ends the day with, you guessed it, television. I am not a television person so I am sitting for hours on end in front of my laptop or tablet. Got on the scale this morning, had to look behind me to make sure I was standing on it alone.
Juicing again and this time I will be adding a full blown workout to accent it. When I am looking for items to juice, I enjoyed experimenting with different fruits and vegetables. I usually go with the basics, oranges, apples, grapes, carrots, kale, greens, spinach, and green beans. Those blend a nice sweet concoction and not bitter at all. I have experienced with broccoli, corn on the cob, beets, cauliflower, rutabaga, cacti, lettuce, bokchow, and asparagus. Of those items, the stems on the broccoli juiced well but the trees did not so I would have chunks of it in my juice. Same with the cauliflower. Corn on the cob didn’t juice well either because I would get lose kernels of it in the bottom of my glass. My other issue was the price on some of those items that are not considered as a popular vegetable individuals consume on a daily average. Those are more of a delicacy. I did some research on juicing, how to juice, what should I juice and how to juice online. There are so many experts on this subject so I pulled a little from each one. Juicing recipes came up with different topics on your preferences as far as your taste buds. I am a fan of sweet so the grapes and oranges had my attention. The bitter fruits are kale and greens. Types of juicers also were a big topic. Never realized just how many different brands, styles, and models of juicers there are in stores. There was one bit of info that intrigued me and that is how you should store your juice when finished. My mom always used a glass jar but i never really questioned why she did it. Thought maybe it was something she seen my grandmother do after she finished cooking, have a cold drink in a jar. The expert said that all juices should be stored in a glass container because it does not lose vitamins and minerals as fast. Storing and drinking out of plastic containers causes the potency of nutrients in the juice to seep out as well as the chemicals in the plastic bottles. Made me think of all the bottled water that is being manufactured. Win some lose some. The best glass containers are old jars from pasta sauces or pickle jars. They come with a screw on cap so its easy to store your finished juicing concoction.
When you are unemployed there are certain times of the day you look forward to. I am not talking about the obvious such as waking up late and not commuting, I am talking about the one that offers those who are looking for a miracle and not that chance of false hope. GOING TO THE MAILBOX AND LOOKING IN! Its like Christmas everyday, not knowing what you might unwrap.
Well today I was surprised with two letters and the first thing I always do is look stage left at the postage. Sure enough....USA PRESORTED FIRST CLASS MAIL. This could only mean two things: 1. Bill Collector 2. Spam mail via snail mail vs email Well it wasn't a collector and when I opened it up the letter was informing me how I could make $8700 in a month. The kicker was how the person sending out the mail advertised it to make it look so appealing. They actually glued two pennies to the page and opened up the paragraph with an old phrase: "WITHOUT TWO PENNIES TO RUB TOGETHER" Going straight for the jugular. Knowing those who like myself sit at home looking at every possible angle to fund their pockets, sometimes by any means necessary. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. So this is when I start doing my research on this great opportunity that has been placed in my path. How Do You Coffee
Liquid crack, java, mojo, black gold, no matter what you call it, the end result is all the same. My addiction started right after I had my first child and prior to that I believed that drinking coffee was only for grown folks, or that’s what my mother and father used to tell me. My pops also would say he liked his coffee like he liked his women; black and bitter. The funny thing is I didn’t realize just how addictive drinking coffee had become until I decided to quit. Day two into my spiral downfall my friend whom I chat with during my commute asked me what was wrong with me and before I could reply she blurts out: Did You Quit Drinking Coffee. Needless to say, I started back on my I.V. drip the next day. Trying to stop drinking coffee is equivalent to quitting heroin with a side of crack cocaine (well maybe not) in my opinion. My preference on how I coffee is more like I prefer coffee in my cream and sugar. When I prepare my coffee every morning it is like Picasso to canvass. It must have the exact measurement of cream and sugar with a blend of hazel nut flavored dairy creamer. No Exceptions. When the creation is complete it taste more like liquid gourmet candy from a Delicacy Diner that specializes in delicate sweets. My instant gratification in a cup. When I cannot accomplish that feat at home there is always the backup place with all the treats…Starbucks! Highly overpriced yet satisfying is another place for great coffee. That special cup is usually done when I am with a friend or at the airport. My theory is why pay for one cup when I can get a whole case. Their cookies, glutton free products, pastries, and desserts are very good. I am still confused about ordering lattes, cappuccinos, and the other expressos they offer. Tall is small and Grande is large, correct. My last place for a great cup of coffee is believe it or not 7-11. They carry the boldest flavor selection that many people cannot handle. When I first started drinking their coffee it was merely on a fluke because I always made my coffee at the house but one day I was out of cream and didn’t have time to stop. I tried this robust blend called Brazilian and I was so impressed with how strong it was. I would never have thought that a convenience store would brew coffee that great. They even have a 7-11 Ap that lets you get your 7th cup on the house. How cool is that. How I coffee is what gets my attitude on track in the morning. Without my morning fix, hit, inspiration, I would not even be able to function. HOW DO YOU COFFEE!
Okay, I will probably get a lot of flack from this post but depending on how you view things is how you will approach it. I am a very positive individual and I look at things different from other folks. I always try and see the glass half full, while some will say, what glass, I don't see no glass. I am an opportunist and when I see something that cant hurt me too bad I might just try it. This was one of those times. I figured I was going to spend the money anyway, why NOT on this.

Barely finished with V-Day and the Green items are already on supermarket shelves. Well, while in the store, might as well start planning for that St. Patrick Party you might be throwing. Just in case you needed a little history on why we celebrate, here is a little something I came across to share. Lets hear it for the Irish!
St Patrick is known as the patron saint of Ireland. Patrick was born in the latter half of the 4th century AD. Patrick was the son of Calpurnius, a Roman-British army officer. One day a band of pirates landed in south Wales and kidnapped this boy along with many others. Then they sold him into slavery in Ireland. He was imprisoned there for 6 years. He dreamed of having seen God. Legend says, he was then dictated by God to escape with a getaway ship. Finally, he did escape and went to Britain. And then to France. There he joined a monastery and studied under St. Germain, the bishop of Auxerre. He spent around 12 years in training. And when he became a bishop he dreamed that the Irish were calling him back to Ireland to tell them about God. The Confessio, Patrick's spiritual autobiography, is the most important document regarding this. It tells of a dream after his return to Britain, in which one Victoricus delivered him a letter headed "The Voice of the Irish." So he set out for Ireland with the Pope's blessings. There he converted the Gaelic Irish, who were then mostly Pagans, to Christianity. He was confident in the Lord, he journeyed far and wide, baptizing and confirming with untiring zeal. And, in a diplomatic fashion he brought gifts to a kinglet here and a lawgiver there, but accepted none from any. Through active preaching, he made important converts even among the royal families. And this fact upset the Celtic Druids. Patrick was arrested several times, but escaped each time. For 20 years he had traveled throughout Ireland, establishing monasteries across the country. He also set up schools and churches which would aid him in his conversion. He developed a native clergy, fostered the growth of monasticism, established dioceses, and held church councils. By the end of the 7th century Patrick had become a legendary figure, and the legends have continued to grow since then. There are many legends associated with St Patrick. It is said that he used the three leaf Shamrock to explain the concept of the Trinity; which refers to the combination of Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Hence its strong association with his day and name. Legend also has that, Saint Patrick had put the curse of God on venomous snakes in Ireland. And he drove all the snakes into the sea where they drowned. True, these are mostly legends. But, after some 1500 years, these legends have been inseparably combined with the facts. And together they have helped us know much about the Saint and the spirit behind celebration of the day. Patrick's mission in Ireland lasted for over 20 years. He died on March 17, AD 461. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick’s Day ever since.

How to Lose Weight Even While Eating Restaurant Food! You are probably bored with your home cooked meals, and would like to visit a restaurant for a change. On the other hand, your doctor has advised you not to eat restaurant foods as it can result in weight gain. You simply don't know which way to go, right? In this article I will tell you how to enjoy restaurant foods while at the same time making sure that you don't get any fatter! Here is a rule of thumb for you: if a certain food tastes too good, it means it has been richly fried, and as such, not good for your health. Surprisingly enough, the raw vegetables and fruits, which usually taste awful, are the best foods for quick weight loss! 1. Visit vegetarian restaurants: In order to be on the safe side, visit restaurants which offer only vegetarian meals. This is not to say that non-veg meals are bad. With non-veg restaurants, you have to take extra care to make sure that you are not eating high-calorie or high-fat foods. As an example, ordinary chicken meat which is served in most restaurants is usually laden with huge amounts of fat which is bad for you! Lean chicken meat, on the other hand, is good for you, but not all restaurants offer lean chicken meat as part of their menus. With vegetarian restaurants, you will be more often than not on the safe side! 2. Let the salad dressing go: You have heard it a zillion times that salads are good for quick weight loss. The reason behind this is that salads are nothing but raw vegetables in chopped form. Raw vegetables, as you might be aware, help you burn fat by boosting your metabolic rate. However, the salad dressing that is provided in most restaurants is rich in calorie. So whenever you ask for salads, make sure to instruct them to remove the salad dressing from the top! 3. Stay away from buffets: A lot of the foods you see at buffets are rich in calorie content. These foods are cooked in bulk with a large amount of oil, thereby making them unsuitable for those who are looking forward to shedding some pounds. If you really want to eat from buffets, make sure you steer clear of these fatty foods and choose the salads and other healthier alternatives instead! That way, you won't accumulate an excessive amount of fat in your body! 4. Control your portions: Check the amount of food you are going to eat before you take that bite! If you think that the food provided to you exceed the portion control limit you are allowed, eat according to your portion limit and then carry the leftovers back home to be eaten on the next day. Ask for a box from the restaurant to help you carry the leftovers. As long as you use your discretion, there is nothing wrong with eating at a restaurant once in while. So go ahead and appease your taste buds! Are Weight Loss Clinics Really Helpful? Everyone wants to lose weight not only to become healthy but also to look good; after all, no one would love you if you have a fat belly and a pair of flabby arms. People also want to shed all those extra pounds pf fat in the shortest time possible. Most people go to the traditional diet route but some even use the lipodissolve fat-dissolving injections. Then again, some people need a bit of extra support to help them achieve quick weight loss! Here is where weight loss clinics come in. There are many weight loss clinics popping up in recent years but not all of them are worth your money. Some are endorsed by celebrities, but just because a clinic is endorsed by celebrities doesn't mean that it is good. Most of the weight loss clinics would promise you the impossible, so it is important to do your due diligence before you join any of them. Before you join a weight loss clinic, inquire about the following: 1. Presence of qualified physicians: Inquire if there are any qualified physicians present at the clinic. For one, weight loss cannot always be achieved by diet and exercise; in some cases, people gain weight because of medical complications and in such cases, the person will need medical attention. For another, it is important that you don't suffer from some kind of side-effects after weight loss. In short, if there are no physicians available at the clinic, then don't join it! 2. Time taken: Inquire how much time it takes on an average to lose weight, and how much weight could be lost within that time period. The salespersons might try to offer misleading answers on this question so make sure to do local inquiries too! Remember that if the clinic claims to help people lose huge amounts of fat within a very short time, say fifty pounds within two months, then that means they are using some unhealthy weight loss methods. Run away from such clinics! 3. Food: What food do they suggest you to eat? This is a very crucial question you should ask yourself before joining a weight loss clinic! Most of the weight loss clinics offer pre-packaged meals to their clients. Pre-packaged meals are okay if you can spend hundreds of dollars on them, but what if you don't have that much money? Besides, what will happen after you lose weight successfully? Will you keep spending ridiculous amounts of money on food? Any weight loss clinic which limits you to their pre-made meals is not a viable solution for you! You should be allowed to cook foods on your own! 4. Exercises: Regardless of whatever people tell you, it is almost impossible to lose weight fast without the aid of exercises. Changing your eating habits alone won't yield any permanent results! Weight loss can be achieved only when you combine healthy eating with physical activity. Exercises boost your metabolic rate, which in turn helps you burn fat fast. If the clinic in question doesn't include exercise in their weight loss program, this is not a suitable clinic for you. Wonderful day in sunny California and I have been busy searching online for alternatives to working a physical job. Looking for all the possible ways to earn a decent income without punching a clock. Lately I have been sitting in front of the television and noticed all the game shows that are broadcasted in the Los Angeles area. Of course there are the all-time favorite game shows (Price is Right, Let’s Make a Deal) that have been on for years, and then the most famous ones, (Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune) still come on during the week. All of these shows pay out a great deal of money in cash and prizes depending on your level of maturity, knowledge, and skill. The easiest game to get on in my opinion would be the one that requires no major skill or training. Game shows are one of the easiest way to supplement your income, if you get chosen. Not all game shows offer the same prizes but there is always some form of monetary gain. Not all shows require you to pass an agility or competency test to be a contestant so depending on your comfort level, one of the game shows should cater to your likings. So narrowing it down to the easiest game show to try out for would be Lets Make A Deal. Let’s Make A Deal requires their contestants to show up on the day of filming wearing some type of costume. Now this is where it gets tricky. Not all costumes are accepted due to the nature of television programming guidelines. Of course no nudity, profanity, or anything illegal will be allowed on live television. Majority of costumes that do make it on the show are age appropriate and subtle to the public. My brother did some research before he decided to become a contestant. He watched a few episodes and he noticed that he could not wear anything that would promote, glorify, or advertise any name brand such as Nike, Disney, Ford, or the sort on the show. He did notice that people who wore some type of fruit or vegetable always made it to the front of the line. So he went and rented him a banana suit and went to Los Angeles to try his luck. His research paid off, he got through the line and was able to get in and nabbed him a spot in one of the end row seats. He didn’t make the cut for a chance to Make A Deal but he did walk away with $100.00. He knew that going to the website and having the items that were listed he could win money. His episode aired today but time ran out and his part did not make it on the big screen. But he did leave with his money, well almost. The mail you a check but still, the money is his when it hits the mailbox. The Smog Factory Got smog, of course you do if you reside in southern California. Keeping your vehicle up to standards according to the Department of Motor Vehicles and the state that is Golden is something that cannot be avoided. Getting your vehicle to the correct Smog shop is really not that difficult because there are so many automotive shops, well at least in the city I live in. Just out of curiosity I jumped in my car and drove down the main street in my city and counted how many car shops that specialize in servicing smogs. I counted five within a five mile radius. I did not know that offering not only to fix and repair your car, doing a smog can add the icing on the cake. One shop that I would like to mention for quality pristine work is the one that offered a great discount for their customers. THE SMOG FACTORY located in San Jacinto, California. This shop has just opened up in the neighborhood and wanted to give the patrons something to keep them coming back. The Smog Factory followed all the guidelines required by the state and the wait time was little to minimal. If you reside anywhere within Riverside County check out The Smog Factory. 709 S San Jacinto Ave San Jacinto, California (951) 487-7885 Just in case you are not sure what the state requires, here is a brief guideline. Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, motorcycles, trailers, or gasoline powered vehicles 1975 and older. Vehicles registered in areas subject to the biennial smog certification program are required to submit evidence of a smog certification every other renewal period. Owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification. The registration renewal notice mailed to you by the department will indicate if a smog certification is required. If a smog certification is required and you have not had a smog inspection, you may still pay your registration fees to avoid any late fees. However, you will not receive your new registration or year sticker until the smog information has been received by DMV. NOTE: Upon initial registration, nonresident;
Does my vehicle qualify for a smog exemption? Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is:
What is a STAR station? The new STAR Program begins January 1, 2013, and will replace the Gold Shield and Test Only program. If your DMV registration renewal notice states your vehicle requires a smog check at a STAR station, you may still take your vehicle to a Gold Shield or Test Only station before the new program begins. If your vehicle registration states your vehicle requires a smog check at a Gold Shield or Test Only station, you must take your vehicle to a STAR station after December 31, 2012. For more information on the STAR program or to find a station near you, visit www.smogcheck.ca.gov. When a car is sold, who is responsible for the inspection? The seller is required to provide the buyer with a valid smog inspection certification at the time of the sale or transfer. Smog certifications are good for 90 days from the date of issuance. The inspection is not required on a transfer if a biennial smog certification was submitted to DMV within 90 days prior to the vehicle transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification). NOTE: Smog certifications are not required for transfers that occur for a gasoline powered motor vehicle that is four or less model years old. (Determine the oldest-qualifying year model by subtracting three from the current year) the four or less model years old rule does not apply to diesel powered vehicles. A smog transfer feewill be collected from the new owner. What if my car fails the inspection? DMV cannot provide technical information or advice in this area. We recommend that you contact the Bureau of Automotive Repair's (BAR) Referee Program toll free at 800.622.7733 for Smog Check dispute resolution and inspection assistance. Consumers meeting low income eligibility requirements may also be eligible for repair assistance or vehicle retirement through BAR's Consumer Assistance Program. Lack of education among the masses is one of the leading causes behind so many weight loss failures. As a matter of fact, lack of education gives birth to several misconceptions and superstitions! One such misconception is regarding carbohydrates. People think that carbohydrates are all bad and that if one can reduce carbohydrate intake, or even better, totally avoid carbohydrates, then weight loss will become easy! However, that is completely wrong! There are actually two types of carbohydrates available: the good and the bad. You should of course avoid the 'bad' carbohydrates but the 'good' ones will provide your body with the much needed nutrition and energy. In this article I will tell you what types of carbs you should consume and which ones you should avoid to ensure quick weight loss! 1. The Bad Carbohydrates: In case you don't know, processed foods contain a lot of carbs. However they are bad carbs. These foods do contain some nutrition in their natural state but as soon as they are processed through several food processing stages, much of their nutrition and value is lost! What is left are empty calories which only make you fat and nothing else. Examples of such foods are chips, white bread, pasta, soft drinks, cakes, biscuits, candies, etc. These foods should be avoided at all costs, if you are serious about weight loss, that is! These processed foods contain a lot of sugar and as you might be aware, sugar is rich in calorie content. The more sugar you consume, the fatter you become! These foods offer very little nutrition to your body and since they have very little fiber content, they are easily converted by your body into fat deposits. Apart from weight gain, eating processed foods regularly can also result in diabetes, since your blood sugar levels increase so much that it becomes extremely difficult for insulin to control it! 2. The Good Carbohydrates: So what are good carbohydrates? Good carbohydrates can usually be found in natural foods, such as raw fruits, vegetables, legumes, seeds, wholemeal pasta, wholegrain wheat, etc. These foods contain carbs for sure but not the ones that would make you fat! Unlike the fast carbs contained in the processed foods, these are slow carbs which take a long time to digest; therefore, you don't get fat! Plus they also contain a high amount of fiber. Fiber will keep you full for a long time! If there was ever a natural way to suppress your appetite, then this is it! Remember that not all carbs are bad. Making the right decision regarding carb consumption can result in quick weight loss!

4 Exercise Tips For the Working Mom
With the pressures of daily life, sometimes working out regularly can become difficult for a working mom. I know it because I am a working mother myself. I have been working even before marriage. The excessive stress at office, coupled with the stress of taking care of my family, sometimes make it impossible for me to stick to my weight loss plan. That said, I don't let stress become an excuse for avoiding exercises altogether! Every one of us has only 24 hours allotted in a day, so if you can fit in all of your daily activities within that 24-hour period, how is it that you cannot find time for exercises? Don't you brush teeth, or take a shower everyday? Why do you do these? Because they are part of your daily routine. You know that if you don't brush your teeth regularly, you will suffer from tooth decay. Similarly, if you don't take a shower regularly, you will have skin diseases. But do you know that if you don't workout regularly, you will become fat? It is not right to use the 'lack of time' as an excuse for avoiding exercises. Let's be honest here: you are probably either afraid of exercises or just don't know where to start! In either case, this article will help you achieve your fitness goals! 1. Find a friend to workout with: Working out alone is not always an enjoyable experience. However, if you can have a friend workout with you, chances are that you will start loving your workouts instead of hating them! Plus seeing someone else working out in the gym will motivate you to continue with your exercise routine! If you know another working mom who has the same fitness goals as you, then rope in her as well! 2. Get an IPOD: Take an IPOD with you whenever you hit the gym. This is a great way of kicking out the boredom out of your workout routine! 3. Do what you love: There are exercises that you probably don't love to do; if you force yourself to do these exorcises it is only a matter of time before you become bored with them! If, instead, you find exercises that you actually love, then it becomes easier! 4. Start it slow: If you have never exercised in life, it is only natural that you will be afraid to hit the gym. Ignore people who say that you have to exercise daily in order to lose weight. Instead, try to take it easy: start by working out only for fifteen to twenty minutes per day, for two or three days a week. As your body gets accustomed to your new workout routine, you can scale up the intensity of your workouts! 4 Essential Foods To Help You With Weight Loss
Do you know that you can lose weight by eating certain foods? Sounds unbelievable, I know. After all, the so-called 'experts' have probably always advised you to starve in order to lose weight. Now, the foods I'm going to tell you about don't contain any special metabolism-boosting chemicals that can help you with quick weight loss. The fact is that your body needs to burn a lot of calories in order to digest these 'special' foods. As you might be aware, the more calories you burn, the faster you lose weight! As we become older, our metabolic rate slows down considerably! Ever wondered why most people gain weight during their middle age? During middle age, a person's metabolic rate becomes low; hence he is not able to burn as much fat as he used to during his youth. Eating these 'special' foods is, however, a good way of boosting your metabolic rate! In this article I will tell you about some of these foods: 1. Green Tea: If you are in the habit of drinking morning tea, replace it with green tea! Ordinary tea is not bad, but green tea is even better! It contains fat burning chemicals which will help you with weight loss. It is no wonder that many of the weight loss supplements available in the market have green tea as a common ingredient! 2. Peanut butter: Peanut butter is a great replacement for the ordinary butter. Unlike the ordinary butter, which is rich in fat, peanut butter is rich in protein and fiber, both of which will help you with weight loss. While protein will help you burn fat by building lean muscle mass, fiber will help in suppressing your appetite for a long time. Peanut butter is available from any local store but I would recommend that you buy the natural ones and avoid the popular commercial brands. Or if you want, prepare it at home! Peanut butter makes for a great breakfast when combined with wholegrain wheat! 3. Almond: There are two types of fat available: the good and the bad fats. The bad fats should be avoided because they make you fat! The good fats, on the other hand, supply your body with essential nutrients such as fatty acids. Almond is one such food. It is rich in fatty acids and protein. Almond helps you burn fat by boosting your metabolic rate! 4. Beans: How successfully you are able to suppress your hunger will determine how fast you are able to lose weight. Beans make for a great appetite supplement. Since they are rich in fiber, they help to keep your stomach full for a long time.

Its not too late to get your Superbowl Party 50 party items. Panthers and Broncos...not my team (Cowyboys) but I am a fan of the Mannings. I enjoy looking at that face he does..you know that face...the one where he tilts his head to the side and looks like he forgot he was in a football game. Yeah, that face, I love it! I only really watch the Superbowl for the commercials, especially the Doritos and Budweiser ones. But even that doesnt have the effect it used to back in the day because nowadays everyone is always LEAKING something that is supposed to be shared for later days. Thats the society we live in. Call this new generation the MICROWAVABLES...they want it now! So let them have it.
As you know the SB50 is being held in the Bay Area Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California this year and my sister sent me a couple of pics while she was at Superbowl City. One of my old time favorites was there of course, and he probably was showing off those rings. Here are a few party items that can help you have a Super Superbowl Celebration. I tried to cover all the basics from the food, decorations, drank, desserts, and underage guests. Have fun and I hope my boy Manning pulls one out and show these young folks how us Veterans do it! Super Bowl decorations Buy a banner and streamers to hang, scatter real or inflatable footballs around the party room, and dangle football-shaped balloons from the ceiling. Let team colors dictate your party color scheme. · Coolers, buckets, or small tubs for drinks If you have the space, get a few small containers and fill with ice to keep beer and other drinks cool. Place them in strategic spots so guests won’t be constantly getting up and going to the kitchen for a refill. · Ice Keep plenty of ice on hand, more than you think you’ll need. You’ll not only want to keep your drink coolers full, but non-beer-drinking guests may want to add ice to their beverages, too. · Beer Stock up on an assortment of bottles and cans to keep everyone happy. If you’re expecting a large crowd, you might want to invest in a keg. Mini kegs are another great option—you can buy a variety of brands and they’ll contribute to the party atmosphere without reminding you too much of a frat house. · · Soda or other non-alcoholic drinks Don’t forget about the non-drinkers in your group, or those who just want to take a break in between brews. · Bottle openers Invest in a few of these so your guests won’t have trouble hunting one down; the fewer distractions from the game, the better. · Food Serve a mix of items to satisfy everyone, and go for both finger foods that are easy to pick up and eat—think sandwiches, chips and dips, wings, and pizza—and heartier fare like chili and barbecue to balance out all that beer. Make sure you have plenty of food; guests will want to replenish often during the game. It’s best to set up a buffet table off to the side where people can load up on main-course items, then have several smaller tables in the TV room with snacks that people can nosh on during the game. · Plates, bowls, cups, and cutlery If you’re going the disposable route, choose sturdy items that can hold up to heavy fare like loaded nachos, pizza, and chili. Now is definitely not the time to break out your best china—it’s inevitable that things will get knocked over during the excitement of the game. · Serving platters, trays, and bowls Pick up inexpensive football-themed items to add to the fun. Just make sure you have enough serving pieces for all the snacks you’ll be setting out. · Napkins You’ll need lots of these for wiping messy fingers and greasy spills throughout the night. · Seating After food and beer, this is the most essential element of your party. Make sure you have enough seats in front of the TV for everyone who’s attending. Ask friends to bring over folding chairs if you don’t have enough, and don’t forget to dig up those lawn and camping chairs you’ve stored for the winter. Put out throw rugs or blankets and scatter some large pillows so that even those seated on the floor can get comfortable.
Who doesn’t like the word FREE…it doesn’t matter what you are doing or where you are when you hear it, it just sounds good! Today I was looking at YouTube at all the different ways to make money from nothing. While looking at all the many ways to profit I had a quick idea of how I could get items for free and research the value of it and resale it. Where other than Craigslist to find free items and make them profitable. So today I am going to make a post of what I found step by step. Here we go.
CRAIGSLIST.COM I. Go to www.craigslist.com Find the state you live in and click on that state. Once you open up in your state go to the local area or city closest to you. I am in California so I clicked on Inland Empire. In that category go to FOR SALE and scroll down to the FREE section. This is what the Free section looks like in my area. This page shows a few items that are free and they are all located within thirty minutes of my home address. Here are more items on the same page.
There were two items that stood out to me in the free section, the toy bundle and the truck bed-liner. The bundle of toys did not have any description of the toys so I could not do research on them. The truck liner did have this detail:
Bed liner out of a 94 Toyota pickup standard size. With that information I did a search on a 94 Toyota pickup bedliner using two different sites. EBAY Here are the pics from my Ebay search
GOOGLE SEARCH
The truck liner has some value depending on the wear and tear of the item. The picture shows that it seems to be in very good condition. If you are able to find an item like this in your area, you could easily re-post it under another title or sell it on another site. This is something that can be done on a daily basis. If you don't have transportation I am sure you could get a friend to help you and break them off some gas money for their time.

No job because you Quit your job and still looking for ways to earn a living is what I have been fixated on for the last few days. I have mentioned a variety of ways that can help your pockets but will not get you that new house or dream car but it still can become lucrative. Many of the projects I have mentioned have a low start up but others may cost you some deep out of pocket costs. Either way these at home income making starter ideas are doable.
Finding the right type of gig that will kill two birds with one stone is always going to be the biggest factor looking for money making projects. Not everyone is cookie cutter material and what’s good for the goose is never good for the gander. Me personally enjoy working inside a nice controlled environment with central heat and air. The option to move my work outside is by my choice and the option is there when and how I want it. Over the weekend I spent time with a friend that worked in corporate America and was just feed up with all the politics and work demands. She decided that there had to be something much more rewarding in her life instead of punching a clock. One day a friend introduced her to owning her own catering business. He mentioned that the start up was very minimal and she already had a truck so why not give it a try. Six years later history has been made. She now has her own mobile barbecue pit that she drives around and works only a few hours a week. Her barbecue plates sell out fast because she has that Special Sauce that everyone is talking about and most of her customers find her through word of mouth. The best advertising ever! She gets jobs to cater different special events ranging from 45 people up to the most being around 1200 patrons. Depending on the menu she charges from $10.00 a plate and up. This includes two meat items and two sides with a roll. She enjoys working for herself and the idea that she doesn’t have anyone over her back asking about a report or that mandatory overtime. This job is definitely for someone who loves the outdoors and enjoys food.
I really enjoyed helping her cater this event which was a baby shower. Not only did we make everyone's belly happy, we met some wonderful people in the process. HAVE TRUCK WILL TRAVEL!!! Get motivated by picking out the perfect APRON for that catering gig!
